Public favourites and best musician prizes to Ratten in de Schuur!

Jeroen Kant and Ratten in de Schuur may not have won the jury prize at the recent Dutch Pop Music awards for new acts (Grote Prijs van Nederland) but they cleaned up everywhere else.
The band received the coveted Public Prize. This prize is awarded not by the jury but by those attending the gig and Jeroen and his band won that hands down. Ratten drummer Gino Bombino also picked up the award for best musician in the finals. Lets just face it – these guys are a cool live act.

Lucie Thorne doing her thang on the road in Australia

Our Luce is doing good things downunder! She has recently released her 5th album “Bonfires in Silver City” to much praise and critical acclaim. She is currently on tour down there, backed up by the sublimely tasty drummer Hamish  Stuart promoting her album.

The tour has so far included festival appearances as well as radio and TV spots.
Here she is with Hamish performing “When the Lights Go Down” at Guildford Town Hall in September 2011

We cant wait till she can get back over here to Europe. Smoked will be releasing “Bonfires” in 2012.

INTRODUCING JEROEN KANT & RATTEN IN DE SCHUUR “GOUD of OP JE BEK GAAN”

This album is our first Dutch language release. Jeroen approached us to produce his record so we went to check out a rehearsal out and liked what we saw so much that we decided to go all the way. The album was recorded in 3 days in Kytopia in Utrecht with the Smoked Sounds Mobile studio. We spent a lot of time mixing and it has turned out beautifully. It’s a great warm, live sounding record from a talented songwriter and a proud addition to the Smoked catalogue.

Official release date 23 May!

NEW PARNE GADJE CD “Kefi Kefi” OUT NOW!

Yes, finally its ready! Parne Gadjes new CD Kefi Kefi transforms folkloristic influences from Hungary, Macedonia, Greece, Anatolia and Afghanistan into some imaginary place where sufi’s whirl in a trance and stranded immigrants seek solace in music, comradeship and the hash pipe. Listening to the haunting melodies of the djura-gada and velofoon, and the trance-like beat of strange drums, one thing becomes obvious: embrace life in all its beauty and torment

AWARD WINNING AUSTRALIAN ARTIST LUCIE THORNE JOINS THE CLUB

We are proud to announce the October 2010 release of Lucie Thornes “Black Across the Field” album. The album won the Sydney Morning Herald Award for best Roots album of 2009 and was also shortlisted for the Australian Music Prize. Lucie is a captivating performer. We saw her holding audiences in the palm of her hand at festivals in Australia earlier this year and when we heard she was making the trip to Europe we knew we had to get involved. Lucie has grit, sensuality, an utterly commanding stage presence. With “Black Across the Field” she has delivered an album of beautiful intensity.

“A spellbinding dark-folk storybook, Thorne is a gifted entertainer”
(Sarah Howells, JMAG)

“Without exaggeration Black Across The Field is as good as anything I’ve heard this year. Growling with warm tube overdrive, stinging like Neil Young… this is a diverse, profound album, with nuances subtle and breathtaking” (Martin Jones, Australian Rhythms Magazine)

“This is one of the finest female vocal albums released by an Australian in years”. (Bernard Zuel, Sydney Morning Herald)
